When talking about 144Hz TN monitors, the AOC G2460PF gaming monitor must be taken into consideration. 144Hz monitors have become relatively cheaper due to the introduction of 240Hz monitors. According to many, there isn’t much of a difference in the performance of 240Hz displays as compared to 144Hz except for some minor upgrades.
On top of that, given the AOC G2460PF’s price, I would consider this a budget monitor for most people. There are many places online where you can pick it up for under $200, which given its features, is quite a good deal.
The AOC G2460PF monitor here has some interesting things to offer. The monitor is supported by FreeSync with a Full High-Definition Resolution of 1920 X 1080. The AOC has also included a wide variety of connection ports which is good to see in a 144Hz monitor looking to be used for multiple devices.
The 24” inch Class TN panel, LED monitor has a resolution of (1920 X 1080). There is a definite improvement from the standard 60Hz monitor refresh-rate. The display being 2.4 times faster than standard 60Hz monitors present a soothing, lag free visual display.
The 24 inch display monitor has an aspect ratio of 16:9. The brightness level is up to 350 cd/m² while the dynamic contrast ratio is up to 80,000,000:1 (good). Compared to other TN panels, this one scores about average. Though considering it’s low price, that’s an achievement.
View-able angle is 160° horizontally as well as vertically – so you will have ample of space to shift and twist your monitor to your personal requirements. The TN panel has 8 bit color, supporting up to 16.7 million colors. While not quite a 10 bit panel found on many of today’s better monitors on the market, 8bit panels still have the ability to impress.
We aren’t going to lie to you, the picture quality on this monitor is mediocre. TN panels are notorious for not producing the best picture quality, and this one is no exception. If you are looking for a monitor solely based on picture quality, there are some good IPS panel or VA panel monitors which should impress you more. But if you are looking for something that focuses on refresh-rate and low input-lag for gaming, at a great price below $200, than keep reading.
The flicker free technology by AOC has a Direct Current Back light system better than other monitors which use Pulse Width Modulation (very harsh on the eyes). The Direct current comparatively is proven to be more effective in providing a safe visual display.
For this display, AOC claims to have the fastest frame rate possible in this price range, and we agree that holds true. The 144Hz frame rate ensures that gamers do not miss out opportunities to attack the opponent by observing rapid motion through smooth filming with no hurdles of low input lag and screen tearing.
AOC states there is an input lag time of only 1ms GTG, which is excellent. A 1ms response time at 144Hz means this monitor is up against the best when it comes to competitive gaming. The things it leaves on the table, however, are improvements in things such as display quality, brightness, colors, size and software features.
The AMD FreeSync technology ensures the monitor display to be flicker free and seamlessly comfortable. The system manages flickers and tears through syncing the monitor and the GPU so the frames are displayed tear free and smooth. Along with this, any slow or flickering input from the gaming mouse is also controlled so you don’t feel it as much.
On a purely gaming standpoint, AOC has itself a winner with the G2460PF.
Standout Features / Design
The feature most notable here is the wide range of connectivity options available in the monitor. The AOC comes with a HDMI cable, Display port cable, USB cable, foot stand and other media drivers. The input ports are VGA, Dual Link DVI, HDMI 1.4, DisplayPort 1.2, 4 x USB 2.0 (1 x fast-charging port), and 1 x upstream USB port (USB HUB) connections.
The HDMI 1.4 connection is meant to easily connect your device (laptop, extra PC etc) to the monitor without having to unplug any existing cables from the display (DisplayPort 1.2).
The monitor contains two 2 watt speakers and a headphone jack. The audio experience is not at all compromised through the headphone jack, but the 2 watt speakers are not meant for any serious audio playback.
AOC G2460PF is VESA mount compatible by 100 mm. The monitor’s software is compatible with Windows 10. Other features include ACOC’s eSaver Software, iMenu Software and the Kensington security slot.
The height-adjustable screen is easy to adjust with its smartly designed foot stand and flat screen which can be turned and twisted to meet your needs.
The monitor’s dimension is 22.3 X 9.6 X 20.6 with an active screen are of 531.36 x 298.89 mm (H X W). The monitor weighs 14.4 pounds with a height adjust length going up to 5.1 inches.
View / Ports
Ports on the AOC G2460PF include: VGA, Dual Link DVI, HDMI 1.4, DisplayPort 1.2, 4 x USB 2.0 (1 x fast-charging port and 1 x upstream USB) connections.
The AOC G2470PF is a fantastic display given it’s price.
The diverse range of connectivity options available for input are outstanding for a small TN panel display.
The 144Hz refresh rate makes it a done deal. An absolutely seamless and smooth visual gaming experience can be enjoyed. AMD FreeSync ensures an even enhanced and good quality watching time for the customers.
A staunch looking foot stand and some able features make it look all the more worth while.
Even though the color accuracy and display resolution are not quite satisfactory (thanks to the TN panel), the flicker free technologies, low input lag, and fast refresh-rates cover up for that allowing us to recommend this monitor.
