LG 34UC79G Front

LG monitors are increasingly popular in the gaming community because of the attractive features and specifications for the price.

The LG 34UC79G is quite an interesting model. While not technically a “gaming” monitor, the best thing about this is that the device has a superb quality screen display with a huge 34 inch screen at the most budget friendly price you can find.

The subtlety curved monitor gives immersive qualities and a sleek look to the monitor and is the reason behind such great visual effects for gaming.

This monitor offers so much at such a low-price range that one is forced to commend on its capabilities. LG has once again not disappointed us with another one of its innovative products. Let’s find out what is all the fuss about this version.

Image Quality

The LG 34UC79G has a great image quality, supported by the IPS 2560 x 1080 (Full HD) panel. The LG’s brightness level is 250 cd/m² supported by a black level of 0.19 cd/ m². The contrast ratio goes up to 1000:1. The high contrast is very beneficial because it creates a level of vibrancy on the screen visuals and brings out colors in a more dominant yet beautiful manner.

The range of color accuracy helps navigate even the darkest of colors apart. Even the black level ratio balances up those darker tones of color by bringing them out rather than dulling them.

The LG monitor has been lauded for high quality color correction. The Delta E of 2.28 and the recorded color temperature of 6501 K are hugely positive numbers for a quality screen effect.

This is an IPS monitor, however. Some have noticed some issues with the notorious IPS “glow”, typically seen in dark rooms on dark screens.

That being said, the colors are very vibrant. Color features are aided by a sRGB coverage of over 99% – a fair enough figure where small issues with red or pink color effects could be lessened.

Gaming Performance

LG’s 34 inch diagonal display takes up a wider space of your desk. The 3800 mm curve is something that is both attractive and useful. The curve tends to fold around the user, resulting in an advance level experience and lessens image distortions.

Some who say this feature could be distracting have not quite gotten an idea of it, though it ultimately does come down to preference on whether or not you prefer a curved monitor.

An aspect ratio of 21:9 is a feature proven to be handier than normal large HD monitors. The excess width is a suitable property for movie watching and the large display also works up to be a great help for work related options.

The AMD FreeSync technology is always a welcome feature. The system works from the lowest range of 50Hz to 144Hz. In other words, you can take advantage of the best game experiences with games running dynamically between 50fps and 144fps.

Features / Design

The panel which supports this monitor technology is an IPS unit. It is well known for being the most effective technology in today’s time, and for good reason. IPS panels are valued for providing incredible colour accurate visuals along with a smooth distortion free display.

LG’s adjustment options and screen controls are as follows:

  • The screen supports a height adjustment of up to 120 mm.
  • The screen has the capacity to move back and forth.
  • The mounting wall is VESA compatible by 100mm.

LG’s 34UC79G monitor contains a large area dominated by On Screen Controls. The settings menu is comparatively bigger than found in other monitors and have a varied range of control options.

The joystick control on the bottom of the monitor, allows you to adjust features such as brightness, contrast and volume. But the main part is in the picture settings. The users can personalize the visual displays through choice of a specific picture mode, tweaking color accuracy and other game-oriented controls.

The most important gaming modes offered by LG have promoted its sales. They are quite problematic but nonetheless useful as well. The first one is the FPS mode that deals with color correction and sharpens the screen to improve the visual quality. The second is another FPS option which is purposely built to highlight darker areas in dull visual displays. The third one is the RTS mode.

The attractive design of the LG 34UC79GB with a large 34 inch screen makes it look sleek and modern in all ways. The dimension of the monitor is 831 X 450 X 399 mm (WxHxD) while it weighs as much 8.6 kg.

The 34 inch wide screen curved display supports a resolution of 2560 X 1080 pixels and has a pixel density of 82ppi. The display curve creates a viewing angle of 178° from both right and left. The bezels are thick, but the matte colour makes LG look perfect in its own way.

View / Ports

The monitor’s input ports include two HDMI 2.0 ports, one Display Port 1.2 connectivity and two USB 3 ports along with a headphone jack – good variety as usual.

Final Thoughts

For us, the best thing about that panel was the large view angles and better color reproduction than all of the TN-panel monitors that are available. I understand why a gamer would choose a TN panel, but if you give me the choice I would pick an IPS panel like the LG 34UC79G-B any day.

For a product almost half the price of the competition, you might expect some corners to be cut when it comes to quality, but we were pleasantly surprised to say the build quality left us surprised.

If you’re in the market for a 34” UltraWide that can get excellent framerates without a super-power graphics card (because of its resolution), this monitor makes an excellent choice.

The LG 34UC79G is one of the best gaming monitor deals at the moment. You get a beautiful UltraWide 34″ monitor which is great for gaming and general computer usage at a great price. While some may prefer a higher resolution given the monitor’s 34″ size, others would prefer to save their wallet and have a better frame rate instead. We will leave that decision up to you.
