Truly a sight to behold, the LG 43UD79 is one of the largest monitors currently on the market. Sure you could use a TV for the same result, but considering this has the accurate color representation and fast input lags usually not found on TV’s, it is something worth a look for gaming. Coming with all kinds of media-friendly features, this monitor might just be the right thing for you in a gaming setup.
The LG 43UD79-B, a 42.5-inch 4K LED monitor, has an overly large display which will appeal to those of us who prefer a single monitor setup over the hassle of having multi-monitor displays for work or gaming.
There is something to be said about owning this type of display. While many GPU’s can handle 4K resolution now, if you are serious about gaming performance you know it would be suicide to attempt a triple 4K monitor setup unless you had a very expensive graphics card. Even then, the framerate may not be what you are looking for.
The LG 43UD79 maxes out at 60Hz, which will make this monitor most appealing to console gamers who may be limited by the frame-rate output unlike PC gamers. An addition of large 10-watt speakers with rich bass, and many media connectivity ports make it clear they want this monitor to be for those us of who may have multi consoles or input devices.
The LG-43UD79-B is categorized as a basic LED monitor but holds many extra features that are definitely going to keep you immersed for a long period of time. LG display quality and great gaming performance truly set this monitor apart from any other 43″ displays.
This huge 43-inch 4K Ultra High Definition monitor with a screen resolution of 3840×2160 guarantees an incredible visual experience.
The sharpened features and color accuracy makes tasks like photo and video editing, film making or digital image enhancements a professionally impressive experience. Even with a basic shape and design, the LG 43UD79-B offers amazing screen performance for the money.
The LG 43UD79-B monitor comes with an IPS panel, great for giving you perfect color balance with the vibrant colors you would see on LG’s other IPS monitors. LG has been known to make some of the sharpest looking displays in recent years, and they have continued that trend with the 43UD79.
This monitor is not technically made for precision design/graphic/motion picture/photography/etc. work, mainly due to it’s size. However, it can function perfectly fine in this role if you have a finishing monitor to check color accuracy on. The monitors come pre-calibrated with a certificate sheet in each box upon arrival.
LG’s 43UD79 is rated as having 5ms GTG of input lag at 4k resolution, which makes this monitor more than capable of casual gaming. While we would not recommend this for PC gaming due to it’s lower frame-rate of 60Hz (unless you are sold on the 43″ size), it would be a fantastic contender for those console gamers who are limited to 60Hz.
5ms of input lag at 60Hz means less than one frame lag per second out of 60 total – this will be unnoticeable. It is noteworthy to mention however, that the 43UD79 does a great job at beating TV’s its size in terms of input lag speed. Most TV’s we’ve reviewed score in the >10-15ms range, which is considered good, and this LG 43UD79 only has 5ms of input lag.
Any gamer will know this is the outstanding pick over a TV for someone wanting the fastest ultra-large gaming monitor.
LG’s LED-lit monitor shares compatibility with HDCP 2.2 copy protection. There are 4 HDMI ports; 2 HDMI 1.4, and 2 HDMI 2.0 ports.
Unfortunately, no FreeSync has been included in this monitor. PC/Xbox gamers may be let down by this, but remember, for it’s 43″ size it still beats most TV’s out there in terms of input lag. If you don’t mind losing a couple inches for the addition of FreeSync, we’d recommend the LG 32UD59, which is a 4k FreeSync monitor that comes in at 32″.
Standout Features / Design
LG ships this monitor with it’s excellent software, allowing control over all aspects of the monitor. Some of these features include the PIP (picture in picture) options, screen splitting, setting custom color/brightness presets for different applications, game mode settings, black stabilizer settings, and much more.
Screen splitting control is a feature that enables you to work on up to 14 different windows that can function simultaneously, yet another exciting multitasking feature assisting you to become timely and work efficient.
Something worth mentioning is the addition of two 10-watt speakers with a Rich Bass and great sound depth. The sound system, which supports a Rich Bass coverage of up to 85 Hz, is a great find. IT’s clear LG intended this monitor to be aimed at people who may use this from a distance, thanks to it’s large size.
As previously mentioned, the LG 43UD79-B monitor carries up to four separate HDMI inputs, allowing many inputs from different devices. There is also a USB-C port for device charging and video input. Keep in mind this is not very Mac friendly though, as noted in the reviews.
View / Ports
Ports on the LG 34U380 include: two HDMI 2.0 ports, a DisplayPort 1.2, a headphone jack, and two USB 3.0 ports.
People on the lookout for a media-friendly monitor with added features and properties should definitely go for the LG 43UD79-B LED-lit monitor. If you set your eyes on this, and are in the market for a large monitor, the LG 43UD79 will do a pretty good job at selling itself.
The best part about this monitor is the extended features added to the system, such as the sound system with rich bass, enabling the monitor to give you close to a cinematic experience during video editing or gaming right from your desk.
As many people have mentioned, moving to a large-size monitor might positively impact on your working efficiency due to it being so immersive. It’s easy to keep many windows open next to each other without the need to rely on Windows Task-View or Mac’s Multi-Window option.
After taking a look at the LG 43UD79, we were truly blown away by it’s size and capabilities as far as a work or gaming monitor. While not technically being a gaming-dedicated monitor capable of fast refresh-rates or near instant input-lag, the 43UD79 easily beats TV’s it’s size for gaming performance and general computer usage.
