Samsung C27F398 Front

Samsung has been around since quite some time and the company has recently started manufacturing curved monitors, such as the C27F398, for the global market.

Curved monitors were not very common in the past as they have become in recent years. Though most of these monitors come with stylish and sleek designs, they also have minor issues with uniformity hence its always better to do your research before you head out to buy one.

Below is the review for the Samsung C27F398, otherwise known as the LC27F398FWNXZA.

Image Quality

The monitor features a Samsung made VA panel. VA panels are different from TN panels and IPS panels in the way they display colors, the blacks are much darker and truer and the colors are punchier. We always recommend VA panels for users who will primarily be using the monitor in a dark room viewing mainly dark scenes or websites. These dark scenes will show the glow on IPS and TN monitors, and many users find it ugly and distracting.

The monitor is capable of providing you with an excellent display and overall performance. The colors are very vibrant, however if you face problems with the backlight level and feel that it’s too bright, you can turn it down a notch for eye comfort.

Colors are displayed with great accuracy and around 99.3% of the color gamut is covered. The monitor has a native refresh rate of 60Hz and it has a HDMI input. Also, Active Crystal Color technology has been featured by the model to increase the vividness and sharpness of the graphics.

You can expect to get a contrast ratio of 3000:1. Hence, you will be getting the brightest version of white and darkest black on you monitor screen. The color saturation o the monitor is also great. The model is eco-friendly and in order to save power you can turn on the eco-saving plus feature.

Gaming Performance

The C27F398 features FreeSync technology. This technology synchronizes the monitor’s refresh rate with the frame rate to get rid of screen tearing and input latency. This also saves the display from getting choppy while you are playing games.

With a quoted input lag time of only 4ms, this monitor will make sure that you don’t get left behind while competing live with other players. At 60Hz, a 4ms lag time is not going to be noticeable.

While some users will be disappointed that the monitor only goes up to 60Hz, this does mean it would make an ideal choice for console gamers who may not want the lag from gaming on a larger TV.

Furthermore, FreeSync is also compatible with AMD Radeon graphic cards like R9 Fury X and R9 290X, and even the new Xbox models.

Features / Design

Two highlight features noted on Samsung’s sales page are:

Eco-Saving Plus

The Eco-Saving Plus feature reduces screen brightness to save power, plus the screen brightness automatically transitions fluidly—reducing energy use even more. The monitor itself is also constructed without PVC.

Eye Saver Mode

Eye Saver Mode optimizes your viewing comfort by reducing blue light emissions and flickers at the touch of a button. Read documents, play games, watch movies and edit photos for long periods of time, and experience a comfortable and pleasing view, without worrying about eye strain or fatigue.

Curved monitors are very convenient for gaming because they provide you a more clear and realistic view of the gameplay.

Samsung C27F591 stands out among computers with regular and basic designs with its large, circular base and a setback stand that give the illusion of a floating screen when you view it from certain angles.

The construction and body of the overall monitor is quite sturdy. Though, some people may prefer a thicker monitor as they are less likely to break but Samsung clearly decide to dedicate this model to style and slimness. The monitor is only 0.5 inch thick (depth). The monitor can also be mounted on a wall using a VESA mount kit.

The monitor has a black plastic finish as well as the bezel and the base. The bottom bezel is simple and uncluttered by controls and labels. It only holds a status light and a Samsung logo.

One of the downsides of this model is that it does not offer any positional or height adjustment. The tilt of the monitor is adjustable at -2° ~ 22° and the exact viewing angle is 178 degrees. It sits 11 cm above the desk. You might have to place the monitor on an elevated surface to ensure a comfortable height and proper viewing angles.

View / Ports

The monitor’s input ports include only 2 inputs: 1 HDMI port and 1 DisplayPort. There is a headphone jack, however.

Final Thoughts

Though the monitor does not come with many extra features, it does not hold back on providing you with a great display and an even better game play. It has great reflections handling and also has an excellent response time and low input lag.

The 27″ screen is great, but it is limited by the 1080p resolution. Though this monitor might work great for you if you are looking for a monitor to play games on, but we don’t recommend it as a suitable choice as a work computer, as many people prefer higher-resolutions for this purpose.

Overall, if you’re looking for a nice upgrade to your current screen without breaking the bank, these screens will do the job nicely.
